Malifaux: Lady Hammerstrike, the beginning!

So, last month, knowing that a new Malifaux was on it's way - and knowing that there's going to be a whole bunch of new plastics and a new rulebook - I took the 'Malifaux plunge'. That is to say, I already had the old 1.5 rulebook but no minis. However, I didn't want to miss the old Viktoria's set before it went out of print, so to speak.
To that end here is Lady Hammerstrike with the base colours painted. The arm is metal/silver with blue /brown wash. the hair is going to be a deep red. White/beige top and denim /black jeans. brass/copper/silver hammer.
We'll see how it goes.
I really like the figures in the pack. It'll probably mean I'll 'have to' purchase the 2e rulebook, but what the hey.

Flames of War - Open Fire! Painting update.

Just so you believe me - here's some stuff I done.

So, what you have here is a team of US Parachute Rifle, with prone machine gunner and some mud/grass stuck on the base for scenic effect. Basically, it's a bit slow going, however I am making progress. Next up will be a US rifle/MG team and a German rifle/MG team. Look out!

Down in the dirt!

Dystopian legions ; Steampunk crazy Britannia.

At the moment I'm juggling a lot of things on the painting table. One day I got carried away and jumped, in a bit of a rush, into painting one of the Dystopian Legions Britannia infantry troops. Then it all ground to a halt for a while and Flames Of War took over , then I did a little more. Then I paused again... Not a great deal to do though, so here is a progress update on it.

For the record most paints are GW :

Macragge Blue - Blue wash then Ultramarine blue for the trousers.
Mechrite Red - Blood red, brown wash then Blood Red for the tunic.
The helmet  = Bleached Bone and brown wash with Bleached Bone/white highlights.
Pouches/webbing white, sepia wash, then white again.

Early on.

Then a bit later on.

As always, the model looks a complete 2-and-8 at this point, but then nearer the end of the process it sorts itself out somehow. I dunno, I suppose it's some form of magic.

And then came ..the Cygnar Battlebox...

I had bought a few bitz and pieces from 'Gifts For Geeks' website before, so I returned to their online store and bought a bit more...as you do. To be honest though, while I've been pleased with the customer service - they've always returned my emails - it's a little irritating to order something online, which appears to be in stock, but isn't really. Or am I just part of the'I can't wait' generation?
In the end I should have a dozen paints or so (I'll use GW metallics and inks) and to go with the Mercenary  Battlebox (Magnus) I'll have Dannon Blythe and Bull and for Cygnar - The Black 13th. Now I don't know whether or not that makes things even. I'll deal with that later. All I'm interested in at the moment is to get a couple of factions to oppose each other, so I can work on the rules. Eventually I'll run a Cygnar/Mercenaries variety of forces. Why? The minis are cool that's why.
Now - given my track record on painting - I suspect they'll be unpainted for a little while yet. Nevertheless the models themselves are good, so I'm looking forward to having a bash at them. Green for the Mercenaries and desert scheme for Cygnar. (See No Quarter #32).
Cheerz!

Warmachine - Mercenaries arrive!

The Magnus The Traitor Battlegroup arrived this weekend. First impressions? Some pinning needed. I've gone with my normal black undercoat for the Heavy Warjack - but I'm going to try a white undercoat for Magnus The Traitor. We'll see I suppose. Different forums and posts on the interweb favour each. I know the white should give a brighter look to the colours and the black helps the shading. Ho hum...

Magnus!

More night goblins...

Creeping along at a snail's pace, I have embarked upon a few Night Goblins to stave off the painting withdrawal symptoms. Orkhide Shade followed by increasingly lighter mixtures of Goblin Green and Rotting Flesh to be exact. Then a Thrakka Green wash before the final highlights. The different 'units' of Goblins have different colour clothing just to create some variety on the board so to speak, and to help with identification. Archers in Mordian Blue with a Badab Black wash and the spearmen with Mechrite Red then a Devlan Mud wash.

Should get these finished in a bit, but, ahem, we'll see.

Another Warhammer Fantasy effort...

Again I've come to realise that I, all to often, start things I know I can't finish in any kind of reasonable time span. I'm still on the Skull Pass set and the rules have changed in the meanwhile...pfft... But I'll persist. I like the idea of WFB game, though the rules 'do my head in'. I don't mind lots of rules per se. I just know that the number of 'rules lawyers' and pedantic divvys is in direct relation to the number of rules. I see this as only a game. Flawed, complex, engaging. You'd think that from the comments of some of the forum contributors that it was oh so much more than that. I digress... Here are the next offerings on my journey...

Yes, goblins.

The squig is beginning to look good and I'm adding a colour scheme to some of the goblins so that there is a whole unit feel on the table top.

Riders on spiders.

Ah. This lot have black spiders.I did a (blood) red tester model. It did look good but added too much extra time. This is only black with highlights of Codex Grey. Straightforward and effective. I've added a bit Of Dheneb Stone between the spider's plates and that does enough to elevate it beyond basic. Especially with the use of drybrushing on the carapace and a few washes here and there.

Onwards and upwards.

PS If you get a chance to see episodes of 'The Game Of Thrones' from Sky Atlantic or HBO... you must.

And the Space Hulk bit...

Ah! So, another reason Space Wolves have been slow going. Tinkering with the Space Hulk terminators. Haven't got very far and think perhaps the overall effect is too dark for Blood Angels - but I do like the effect. Mechrite Red base over Chaos Black. Blood Red overbrushing. Devlan Mud/Badab Black wash. Then drybrushes of Blood Red, some blazing orange added, then used on it's own for a bit of a highlight. Next time I'm going to go a little lighter on the wash...

Current projects IG

Here's a Cadian figure currently in progress, you might notice the Forge World accessories - the backpack, helmet and torso with shotgun. They came with a Veterans pack and a Cadian upgrade sprue. Ive gone for a Graveyard Earth and Bleached Bone = brownish/sandy theme, used Devlan Mud wash. Undercoat on uniform of Kemri Brown and armour was Scorched Brown. I found that the Forge World torso and head parts didn't quite fit the Cadian plastic legs - they were too small. This was annoying so I added accessories at the waist to compensate. The resin mouldings weren't that great either. I had to phone up to get them replaced. Give Forge World their due though, they were completely professional about it and it didn't take long to get the new sprues.
